Our Story
A school with deep Montessori roots.
Montessori House of Children is a private school founded by Mr. and Mrs. V.D.B. Perera. Mrs. Perera was directly trained by Dr. Maria Montessori, the originator of the method.
The school opened its doors in Anaheim on September 5, 1968, beginning with a primary class for children ages 2 to 6. Elementary classes were later added so students could continue their Montessori education as they grew.
The Perera family continued its Montessori formation in Bergamo, Italy, building a tradition of careful, individualized instruction across generations.
Our purpose is simple: help each child progress at his or her own pace in an environment that supports independence, concentration, responsibility, and respect.
The Montessori Method
Hands-on learning that grows with the child.
The Montessori Method emphasizes patience, research, independence, social development, care for oneself, and care for the environment. Children work at an individual pace with carefully prepared materials.
Sensorial Learning
Montessori materials help children refine touch, taste, smell, hearing, perception, and vision while developing awareness and order.
Language & Mathematics
Children move from concrete materials toward reading, writing, number concepts, and the four operations with understanding and confidence.
Programs
Learning from age 2 through 12.
The school serves children in pre-primary and ungraded elementary classes, with individual instruction and room for each child to progress at an appropriate pace.
Pre-Primary
Practical life, sensorial work, language, mathematics, and experiences that encourage concentration, coordination, independence, and confidence.
Elementary
Language, mathematics, physical and social sciences, and increasingly abstract learning that responds to the child’s questions of “why” and “how.”
Enrichment
Spanish, music, art, history, geography, botany, dance, gardening, and other activities expand the child’s world.
Summer School
A six-week summer school begins immediately after the regular school year ends.

Regular school:
Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
Arrival: 8:45–9:00 a.m.
Pickup: 2:30–2:45 p.m.
Child care:
Available by arrangement from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

A child may enter at any time during the year. Tuition can be paid in monthly installments, and tuition for a mid-year start is prorated by school day.

A Former Student’s Story
A Montessori education that lasts.
I have many fond memories of my time as a student at Montessori House of Children. Ms. Perera and the other teachers were amazing and helped me develop the foundation for many parts of my academic and social life. Today as a surgeon taking care of mainly cancer patients I often reflect on the values that were instilled in me from an early age by my parents and teachers.
At House of Children I was taught the importance of respect, honesty, etiquette, and ambition. All of these have been invaluable in helping me achieve success in my career but more importantly in my daily interactions with people. These are virtues that are usually not taught in schools but were an essential part of my education. Although I was a student there over 20 years ago I know that Ms. Perera and the school still maintain the same high standards. That’s why when I was looking for a school for my daughter I did not have to think long before enrolling her at Montessori House of Children.
